Steampunk Spells Box and Mini

Good evening!

As promised I've got some photos of my Steampunk Spells project to show you.  What a blast I had putting this together.  I did this one just for me.  No particular end in mind.  Just playing and having fun.  Hope you like it as much as I do!

The box I used is a Graphic 45 Altered Art Box with windows in the front.  I don't think these are available anymore.  I have had this in my stash for a year.  The flowers were fussy cut and layered.  I got this idea from Anne Rostad from the G 45 Design Team.  There are Tim Holtz die cut gears, paper and chipboard accents.

I took some metal tape, ran it through the Big Shot with a Tim Holtz Texture Fade, and sponged on some black paint.  Most of the paint gets wiped off but stays in all the nooks and crannies.  I used this on the sides, as accents and even a little peeking out of the back.  Thought it gave a great grungy steampunk feel to the box.

The front cover opens to reveal our steampunk witch in all her glory.  You can see that metal tape accent.

The interior panel opens to reveal a mini "spell" book.  The ribbon is holding it in place.

This ribbon is to help pull the mini out.

Using the cut apart sheet I created some journaling spots and then added tags held in place with belly bands and stoppers.  So fun huh?

Well, what do you think?  Steampunk Spells combines two of my favorite things - Steampunk and Halloween.  I'm just in heaven.  Still have lots of paper left and I can't wait to make something else.

CHA = Loads of Inspiration

Hello everyone!  Hope you are having a good week.

Crafters have a wonderful source for inspiration.  Its the Craft and Hobby Association.   Twice a year there is a trade show to show off the latest and greatest to retailers and designers.  The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) trade show is next week in Las Vegas.  Why would that interest you?  I'm not a retailer or designer Sharon, you are saying.  Well . . . . . . if crafting is your hobby, the manufacturers share lots of sneak peeks in the weeks leading up to the show and it is a mega dose of amped up inspiration twice a year. While the show is not open to the general public everyone can benefit from ideas, projects, and inspiration.

As you already know I am a fan of Tim Holtz. I really look forward to his releases of Idea-ology, Sizzix, Ranger, and Stampers Anonymous.  The sneaky peeks have begun. You can check out the posts on Tim's blog timholtz.com.   Ranger here, Idea-ology here, and here, Sizzix here, and here.

Most, if not all of your favorite companies are giving sneak peeks.  Check it out!

It is every avid crafters dream to go to CHA.  That includes me.  Just to be there to see, touch and soak in all the new products and the booth decorations would be heaven!

Well, folks my dream is about to come true!  I am blessed enough to be attending the Las Vegas CHA Create n Connect show next week!  Really!  Wow!  I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.  The lovely Jodie and Barb at Chico Scrapbooks have invited me to join them on their buying journey.

Reminder that Google Reader is Retiring

Hello again!  Two posts in one day. How about that!

I was reminded tonight that as of tomorrow Google Reader will be no more. A reader is a great way to organize all the blogs you read or follow in one spot. I moved my blogs from Google reader over to Feedly. It was an easy move and there are several options for viewing.  It will take a bit to get used to the format but do far so good.

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2013 June

Hello!

Wanted to share my version of Tim Holtz June tag. Nothing like waiting until the last possible moment, ha ha. Really, it is actually July tomorrow?

I chose a different image but followed Tim's techniques. Using the Distress markers on watercolor paper really allows some nice blending and shading. Really enjoyed this process.

Gone Dylusional!

Happy Friday!

Was planning on posting this weekend what I've been up to but got so excited decided to share a peek. Ready for this?  Ok, you may have already guessed but I am Dylusional. Errr, I mean I've gone Dylusional. Oh, you know what I mean!

I finally got my hands on Dyans journal, inks, stamps and stencils!  Yahoo!  I'm in heaven!  Here's a little look at my first pages. 

Sorry if some of the pics look a little wonky. Working from my iPad and don't know how, or if I can edit photos. 

Aren't those colors just gorg!   Really fun and relaxing.  Loving the Dylusions!

As usual, I've got several projects going. Here is my other current joy . . . Steampunk Spells!  Just a little sneaky peak on something I've got brewing.

A Ladies Diary Birthday

Hello all!

Hope your week is going well.  Almost the first day of summer, can you believe it?  My the year has gone by quickly it seems.

If you don't know already, I have started a Facebook page to share my blog posts as well as other photos of projects.  If you are on Facebook, come on over to SY's Studio and check it out.  If you want to see new posts to that page go ahead and "Like" the page.  I bring up the Facebook page because I put up a sneak peak of a birthday project for a friend.  Could be that I will be sharing other sneaks as well.  Just saying.

My friend Debby celebrated her birthday recently.  She is a Graphic 45 fan and especially loves the A Ladies Diary line.  I created a wall hanging for her using A Ladies Diary papers.

It started with some chipboard, patterned paper, and some solid cardstock.

And turned into a triple wall hanging.

Each panel is 5" x 7" and covered with solid cardstock.  On one panel you can see some embossing peaking through.  I then layered all the Ladies Diary papers.  Next came the embellishments including liquid pearls, die cut flowers, die cut frames, buttons,  and brads.  I linked the frames together with some jump rings and rings from my stash.  A bit of leaf ribbon created the hanger.

So enjoy making these wall hangings as gifts.  It is a fairly quick project that can be made with paper and embellishments from your stash.  It can be customized to any size that suits your need.
