Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge 34, The Grand Finale

Hello everyone!

Well, here we are at the final challenge from The Tim Holtz book, Compendium of Curiosities 3. What great fun it has been to play along.

The final challenge is the Layering Stencil Monoprint technique on page 48. This is such fun and it's easy to get carried away with a desk full of backgrounds. 

I used the technique on watercolor paper and used it to cover a shadow box die cut from Tims postage die. 

This piece ended up on the back. 

Yup, it's a Halloween shadow box. I know, I know it's only August. I love creating home decor projects for Halloween and I am getting a head start on holiday projects. I pulled out my favorite Halloween Distress Inks and got in some frightful fun. 

The jack o lanterns and skull were stamped, inked and cut out. The spider and Happy Halloween are from the same mini Halloween 4 stamp set.   The script on the front and sides is from the new ledger script stamp set. Serious, mad love for this set!

The spider is stamped in black archival and embossed with clear embossing powder. The words and bat are rub ons. 

The gum drops were colored with mushroom alcohol ink for an aged look. 

This will be a fun piece for the mantel or a shelf.  I had a great time creating this shadow box.  Hope you enjoyed it to.

Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge, #33

can you believe we are almost to the end of the CC3 Challenges?  It has been fun to play along and I have enjoyed learning some new techniques along the way.

Challenge #33 is all about Altered Surfaces.

I know I always say this but this technique is fun.  Great grungy fun!  The possibilities are endless and can be adapted to any project.  I was so inspired by the Curiosity Crew's projects and amazed at the variety.  Be sure to visit Linda Ledbetter's blog, Studio L3 to see the projects and get more details on the challenge.

I worked in my Dylusions large journal for this challenge and got a chance to play with the newly released Crazy Birds dies.  Oh what a joy!  These crazy birds just make me smile.

Cute, huh?  I decided that these crazy birds needed a neighborhood!  Their houses are created with Tim's Artful Dwelling die and some scraps of Tim's paper.  I used the challenge technique to create the house numbers.

One of my favorite things was that I could color coordinate the house number with the color of each bird.  Hee hee hee!  Oh its the little things, right?

The page was finished off with an appropriate sentiment.

I've really been enjoying playing in my art journal this year.  Such a great way to play with my inks, paints, stamps and dies.  Looking forward to the accessories stamps for these crazy feathered friends.

Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 29

Hello!

I'm joining in on the latest Compendium of Curiosities 3 challenge. This one is all about the eroded metallic technique. What a fun time!  If you want to play along grab your copy of Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities III and turn to page 44. 

I used the eroded metallic for my old jalopy and sign. Perfect for an old car, right?  I created a journal spread about driving yourself to an unique life and leaving the ordinary behind. 

The spread is a bit of a hot mess but I adore the eroded metallic on the car and the sign. 

My art journals are about learning and letting go. It's my playground and lab. Great place to practice new techniques and just have fun.  I'm ok with however things turn out as long as I enjoyed the process.

Compendium of Curiosities, Challenge 21

It's time for another installment of the Compendium challenge.   This challenge is all about the Rock Candy Distress Glitter. Wow, what fun I had with this one!  I couldn't just stop making cards and tags with this technique. 

I immersed myself in hearts and pinks and reds to celebrate love and Valentines Day!  I pulled out some newest Tim Holtz stamps, stencils and texture fades and just played and played. 

This card has a finished size of 5 3/4 x 5 3/4.

Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 20

Hello there,

A great start to a new week.  Hope you had a good day and are looking forward to the week ahead.

Last time I played along with CC3C was challenge 16!  Yikes!  I'm excited to present my take on challenge 20.  Not only is this one of my favorite Tim techniques but I got to use some newly released stamps!  Yay!

There is only one rule for those playing and that's to work from your own version of Compendium of Curiosities 3 and not provide the instructions. This is out of respect for all of Tim's hard work in creating the books for us.

I made a couple of cards using the new flower garden and crazy birds stamps. I am in love. Love I tell you.

And what can I say about the birds?  So stinkin cute.

Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 16

Happy Friday,

Thank You so much for all your kind comments about my last challenge post.  So appreciate you taking the time to visit and give me some encouragement and love.

Challenge 16 in the CC3C is all about layering stencils.  As per the rules I can't let you in on the technique but you can check it out yourself on page 50.

I needed a masculine birthday card.  I wanted something beefier than cardstock so I started with a chipboard base.  I then covered the card with various Tim Holtz papers from French Industrial and Laboratorie.

The card opens as a gate fold to reveal an interior birthday card.  The card is held in place with a belly band.

I kept things pretty simple and free of dimensional embellishments as I wanted to be able to mail it.  The chipboard card will fit in a 6 x 9 envelope.

Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 15

Happy Friday!  It's number 15 in the Compendium of Curiosities III Challenge.  This one is a Cabinet Card Pocket.  You will find this challenge on page 38 of the Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities III book.

First let me say Thank You for all the lovely comments on my last CC3C piece.  So appreciate all the comments and visits.

As Thanksgiving is next week and with colder weather arriving I was in a winter mood while creating my cabinet card pocket.

Meet Sammy skater.  He loves winter, snow, skating, and making snowmen.  Aren't Tim's found relatives so fun?  I took all my inspiration from this photo to come up with a winter theme.

Ack!  So sorry for the cruddy background of my dirty non stick mat!  Well, that's kind of embarrassing.  In my haste to get these photos I didn't pull out a better, er, at least cleaner background.  Hee, hee, hee.

Did you know that the speckle stencil makes great snow with texture paste applied through it?

Clear rock candy glitter applied over Scotch Quick Dry glue added a sparkle and icy feel.

The tag in the pocket is one of those snowmen that Sammy likes to build.  The top is adorned with the new stacked snowflake which slides over the front of the cabinet card.

Mr. snowman is covered in clear rock candy glitter.  But first the tag was inked up in various blue Distress inks and the scarf, holly, nose and arms were colored with Distress markers.

Here is a closer look at the snowflake that adorns the tag.  Fun, fun die!

The skate charm was the perfect embellishment!

I really like how my cabinet card pocket turned out.  Captures the essence of Sammy the skater, don't you think?  It would make a fun Christmas card and could even hold a gift card if you attached a pocket to the back of the tag.

Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 13

Hello friends!

Can you believe we are already at Challenge 13 in the CC3 Challenge?  This one is all about the Worn Cover.

I am playing along with the lovely Linda Ledbetter and the Curiosity Crew as they make their way through Tim Holtz latest book, A Compendium of Curiosities Volume III.   Check out page 35 for all the details and inspiration.

I thought it would be fun to make a Santa book with the Christmas Wishes version of the worn cover.  It could hold the Santa pictures every year, or perhaps the Christmas morning photos.  Something that could be brought out each year with the decorations to bring up memories of Christmas past.

The cover was colored with Iced Spruce Distress Stain.  The spine was decorated with some festive greenery using the Festive Stencil and some texture paste.  Once dry I colored them with Distress Markers.

The cover was embellished with a white pigment pen (Uniball Signo is my favorite) and a Fude Ball 1.5 Red pen.  I just enhanced the pre-printed patterns already there.  A little Glossy Accents on the Christmas Wishes and some Xmas Red Stickles finish it off.  Next came old St. Nick.  Almost like he was made to fit that spot on the cover, don't you think?

The inside cover was decorated with Distress Inks applied through the Festive, HollyBough and Christmas stencils.

Both the outside and inside were spritzed with Perfect Pearls mist in Biscotti.  These pics don't quite capture the magical sparkle it adds.

The Idea-ology Trimmings used to tie up the spine were embellished with a Facet and Fragments.

Really, I think I've fallen for St. Nick!  This new die is just the best Christmas accent and so fun to put together.  I used some hand made paper recycled from some old art pieces.  Just makes the perfect fuzzy Santa beard, sigh ;-).

The worn cover is a blast to play with.  I'm thinking this little Santa book will be perfect to hold some of those throw back Christmas pictures.
